Miracles of Jesus (Continued from Part II)
-
The first miracle Jesus did was at a marriage in Cana of Galilee
where He turned water into wine (John 2). Normally it takes a long time
and a process for water to turn into wine. It first falls on the ground,
gets to the roots and into the wine and develops in the grapes. Then the
grapes have to be crushed. Our wonderful Lord altered the ordinary
course of nature to meet the need.
-
Jesus told the servants to fill the water pots with water. They
obeyed without questioning. Normally this water was used to wash the
feet of guests, and hence this was not the thing to do at this
particular time, because all the guests had already washed their feet.
But they immediately obeyed without questioning.
-
The secret to success in operating in the working of miracles is
simple obedience to the Lord, doing what the Lord has spoken without
questioning.
-
By the working of miracles, Jesus raised the widow’s son from the
dead, feeding the five thousand with five loaves and two fish.
-
In (Matthew 14: 27-29) We see Jesus and Peter walking on the water. If
we are going to operate in the working of miracles, we must OVERCOME THE
FEAR OF FAILURE, and the fear of looking foolish. We must step out of
the comfort zone of our traditional boat. Peter first eagerly desired to
walk in the supernatural gift when he asked Jesus, “Command me to come
to you on the water.” Peter received the word of wisdom and the gift of
faith when he heard the voice of Jesus saying, “Come!" Peter immediately
obeyed, stepped out of his boat and began to operate in the working of miracles, as he walked
on the water with Jesus. It is equally important at this time not to look at
the storms and problems and impossibilities. Any fear and doubt must be dealt with by
repentance, and keeping your eyes on Jesus, His word and promises.
-
Temple Tax (Matthew 17: 24-27)
Jesus knew by the word of knowledge that the Pharisees had asked Peter
about Jesus paying His temple tax. Then by the word of wisdom and gift
of faith He told Peter to go and catch a fish and in its mouth is the
money for the temple tax for Peter and Him.
-
Great catch of Fish (Luke 5: 4 – 7)
- The gift of working of miracles is for all believers today. Peter had
fished all night and caught nothing. Many have like Peter tried to
operate on their own knowledge.
- We must say, as Peter said, “Nevertheless at your word”. We must take
time to hear Him speak, and quick to obey.
-
The promise is for us today.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I
do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I
go to My Father.” (John 14: 12)
Gifts of Healings
The Gift of healings is the supernatural impartation of God’s healing
power to the sick.
They are described as gifts (plural) of healings (plural) because of,
firstly the other gifts of the Holy Spirit are actively involved.
Secondly some have a special gift to heal cancer, some diabetes, some
bone imperfections, some blindness and deafness, some may have many or
all of these individual gifts of healings. Thirdly there are also many
ways to impart or minister healing to the sick. The person receiving the
healing is the recipient of the gifts of healings, we are the vessels
who simply deliver these gifts to the needy.
Healing through
discerning of Spirits
-
Not every sickness is the cause of demons, but often demon spirits
of infirmity are the root cause of the person’s sickness or disease.
Most of these spirits are identified by their diseases or function. E.g.
Spirit of cancer or spirit of arthritis. Some are identified as an
unclean spirit, or a deaf and dumb spirit in the case of the epileptic
boy.
-
When a person has a disease that medical science calls incurable or
cannot be detected through tests, this is surely caused by a demon spirit.
Through the gift of discerning of spirits, God will “put His finger” on
the root cause of the sickness. “But if I cast out demons with the
finger of God, surely the Kingdom of God has come upon you.’ (Luke 11:
20)
The finger of God here is the discerning of spirits, which our Lord
Jesus operated to cast out demons. Through this gift demons can be cast
out and the disease will be healed.
-
Woman with a spirit of infirmity. (Luke 13: 11 – 13, 16) This woman was bent down, Jesus discerned the spirit behind this through
the discerning of spirits and cast out the spirit of infirmity and she
was healed immediately.
-
Jesus healing a mute (dumb) person - “as they went out, behold they brought to Him a man, mute and demon
processed. And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke.” (Matt 9:
32-33a)
Healing through the word of Knowledge
-
Often when ministering in the gifts of healing, God may reveal a
specific disease He wants to heal, or the name of the person with the
disease, or the organ or place that was affected. It may come by an
IMPRESSION or VISION of the part of the body that is diseased. It may
also come as a feeling of discomfort in the part of the body of the
person ministering.
Healing always comes because what God reveals, He heals.
-
Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty eight
years. When, Jesus saw him lying there, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well”? …
immediately the man was made well, took up his bed and walked. (John
5: 5 – 6, 8 - 9). Sometimes God would direct our attention to a certain person in the
crowd. We may feel “a pull in our spirit” to that person.
Healing through the word of Wisdom
It is important to take time out to hear and see the Fathers will and
know when, where, who and how He wants us to minister to the need of the
sick. Jesus said “ … the words that I speak to you, I do not speak on my
own authority but the Father who dwells in Me does the work.” (John 14:
10b)
-
Through the word of wisdom, Jesus ministered healing to people in many different ways. He laid hands on
them, put his finger in their ears, spit and touched a persons tongue,
put mud in a persons eye and asked him to go and wash in the pool of
Siloam. He sometimes healed the sick by only speaking, He cast out
devils and healed them, He told the lame – “Take up your bed and walk”
etc.
-
Word of wisdom is the healing ministry of Paul.
- Paul ministered healing and deliverance through the laying of hands,
through handkerchiefs and aprons that belonged to Paul. He raised a
young man from the dead by falling on top of him and embracing him.
- Before Paul ministered to the Father of Publius, he prayed first (to
receive a word of wisdom on how to minister healing to this man) and
then laid hands on him and healed him (Acts 28: 8)
- We always need to pray, before we minister healing for direction or
a word of wisdom from our Lord on how He wants us to minister His
healing power in that particular situation.
Healing through the Gift
of Faith
Sometimes when faced with a need for a creative miracle for people
who have a part or parts of their body missing, deformed or
malfunctioning through birth defects, surgeries or accidents. When a
higher level of faith is required than ours, God will supernaturally
impart to us the Gift of faith, when we pray for direction, before we
minister. Through the word of wisdom God may show us ministering in a
particular way and the creative miracles happening. We need to
immediately obey by do what we see in the spirit. It is only then the
miracle will happen.
-
Peter received the gift of Faith to bring healing to the lame man
at the gate ‘beautiful’.
“Then Peter said, ‘silver and Gold I do not
have, but what I do have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, rise and walk’. And he took him by the right hand and lifted
him up, and immediately his feed and ankle bones received strength. So,
he leaping up, stood up and walked and entered the temple with them,
walking, leaping and praising God.” (Acts 3:6)
Healing through the working of Miracles
-
Then He (Jesus) said to the man who had the withered hand, ‘step
forward,’ he said to the man, ‘stretch out your hand,’ and he stretched
it out and his hand was restored as whole as the other.” (Mark 3: 3,5b)
-
Jesus spits in a blind man’s eyes and lays hands on him and heals
him (Mark: 8 23 – 25)
-
Jesus spat on the ground, made clay with His saliva and put it on
the eyes of the blind man and said go and wash in the pool of Siloam and
the blind man received his sight (John 9: 6 – 7)
Every believer can operate in the gift
The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are not limited to the five fold
ministry (Prophet, teacher, pastor, apostle, evangelist) but to every
believer. The Holy Spirit distributes them to the body of Christ as He
wills (1 Cor 12: 11 – 12 / Mark 16: 17 – 18 / 1 Pet 4: 10)
The more Excellent Way (1 Cor 12: 31)
The more excellent way is given in the next chapter
1 Cor 13, which is
walking in love (AGAPE – God’s love). When we walk in God’s love and
compassion, the gifts in operation will be excellent and glorious to
see. Ask the Lord to impart His love into your heart by the Holy Spirit
(Romans 5:5). Confess 1 Corinthians 13, until you receive it.
How to receive the Gifts
-
Pray and earnestly desire these nine gifts (1 Cor 12: 31)
-
Laying on of hands (Romans 1: 11)
Seek those who are already gifted with these gifts and request them to
lay hands on you, imparting the gifts.
My Prayer for you
Dear Gracious Heavenly Father,
I pray that you will grant out of Your divine compassion and love, all
the gifts of Your precious Holy Spirit to all my friends and relatives,
who are my precious partners and all who read this teaching,
distributing the gifts according to Your will. May they effectively
minister in your love and compassion to each other in their communities,
work places, Churches and where ever You lead them Father.
In the name of our precious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
Amen.
